What Is the Cheaper Home Batteries Program in Redlands and Brisbane?
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program is a national initiative introduced by the Australian Government to make solar battery storage more accessible to households and small businesses. The rebate is automatically applied at the point of sale, so there's no extra paperwork for you to manage.
- It’s based on the usable capacity of your battery and starts at $330 per kWh in 2025. That means a 10 kWh battery could save you around $3,300 right off the top. The rebate will gradually decrease each year until the scheme ends in 2030.

Why has the Australian Government introduced the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?
The program was introduced to encourage more households to adopt battery storage. By storing solar energy during the day for use at night, Australians can reduce peak energy demand and improve grid stability while lowering their own power bills.
Can renters access the solar battery rebate?
Unfortunately, renters cannot directly claim the rebate unless they own the property. However, landlords can install battery systems on investment properties and claim the rebate themselves.
How does battery storage affect my feed-in tariff?
Adding a battery typically reduces your feed-in income because you're storing solar power instead of exporting it. However, this trade-off is usually worth it, as you'll save more by using stored energy during peak evening rates.
Can I monitor my battery performance?
Yes! All modern battery systems installed by Solair Electrical include smart app monitoring, letting you track your energy generation, storage levels, and consumption in real-time from your phone or tablet.
How does battery efficiency impact my savings?
Battery efficiency determines how much of the stored energy is usable. Most lithium-ion batteries are 90–95% efficient, meaning almost all of the energy stored can be used in your home.
What happens if the power goes out?
If you choose a system with blackout protection, your battery can power essential appliances (like lights, fridge, or medical equipment) during an outage. Not all batteries support this by default—make sure to ask us about backup functionality.
What’s the difference between AC- and DC-coupled battery systems?
DC-coupled systems are typically more efficient and are best when installing a new solar and battery system together. AC-coupled systems are ideal for retrofitting batteries onto existing solar setups. We’ll help you choose the best option based on your current system.
How long will my battery last during a blackout?
This depends on your battery size and energy use. A 10 kWh battery could power a fridge, lights, internet, and a few appliances for several hours. We’ll design the system around your critical needs.
What makes a battery system “rebate eligible”?
To qualify for the solar battery rebate, the system must: Use approved CEC-listed products Be installed by a Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) accredited installer Have at least 5 kWh usable capacity We’ll ensure your system meets all eligibility requirements.
What size battery do I need?
This depends on your daily energy usage, solar generation, and what you want to power at night or during a blackout. We provide a tailored assessment to recommend the most cost-effective battery size for your home.
Why choose Solair Electrical for my battery install?
We’re local, qualified, and focused on customised, high-quality energy solutions. Every system is installed by our in-house team—no subcontractors. We offer honest advice, CEC-approved gear, and full rebate support.
